The Cazú Zegers Architecture Studio has developed the Maternal Houses as an ethno-architectural project. The Maternity Homes or "Casas Maternas" correspond to a cultural bridge that integrates vernacular medicinal customs and the conditions for a culturally appropriate birth, returning to women the necessary comforts to traditionally giving birth. The infrastructures created have an articulation between conventional medicine and ancestral medicine
Each proposal was created in a participatory manner with groups of women and indigenous peoples belonging to eight municipalities. Based on detailed field research and a participatory methodology, it was possible to collect various testimonies to incorporate the genesis of childbirth and medicine for these indigenous groups.
